I’m just going to give this space to Minneapolis residents to share:

My dear friend Katelyn gives a heartbreaking perspective asking, “What seven-year-old needs to be afraid to go to a basketball game?”

A clinical social worker specializing in immigrant mental health likens the current challenge as a relay race, one that we’re in together.

This beautiful poem shared by a friend on behalf of someone who cannot post it himself.

At the end of this email is a visual shared by a reader that’s useful for parents, teachers, grandparents, and anyone who interacts with children. A family friend of ours who lives in Minneapolis shared that Renee Good was killed outside his wife’s yoga studio, and Alex Pretti was murdered in front of his kids’ school.

Be the light for our neighbors in Minneapolis, and for every person paralyzed by fear for their safety, security, and life—immigrants, people of color, trans people, disabled individuals, and anyone else whose rights are being systematically stripped away.

How will you be a light?

When ICE occupies our streets, NO COMMUNITY IS SAFE. We stand with Minneapolis.

Resources & Ways to Take Action

Now is not the time to falter. Even if you don’t know what to do, do something. Here are some ways. The Congress and Senator messages are filled out for you!

As one of the presenters in the Eyes on ICE training stated, “The Constitution protects every one us—immigrant or not, citizen or not.”

  • Now: Watch this recording of Eyes on ICE: Document and Record to know what your rights are and how to stay safe and avoid unnecessary risk.

  • February 5th: Attend the next Eyes on ICE training at 8 PM ET. RSVP for the link

  • Today: Send a message to Congress. They MUST demand an end to these reckless immigration raids and oppose any bill that adds to ICE’s budget. Not a penny more!

  • ASAP: Call or email your Senator urging them to push for an appropriations bill that puts serious restrictions on ICE and does not add a penny more to its budget.

A reader and revolutionary shared this resource, noting she printed and placed these cards on her doorstep for anyone who needed them:

  • Red Cards / Tarjetas Rojas—Know your rights.

Quote of the Month

From the poem noted above, posted by a friend on behalf of someone unable to publish it himself. Thank you, Rachel, for sharing.

You’ll need to trust your eyes and ears.

You’ll need to trust your heart and mind.

You’ll need to trust your allies when they say

you’ll need to be careful who you trust.

Now it’s heavy. It’s dark.

For both, for all, be a light.

A beautiful writer
